Black Community owes Lucia Whalen apology, restitution

2009 July 27 post from skipintro

Read the article about the just-released 911 call.

By RUSSELL CONTRERAS (AP) – 1 hour ago

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The 911 caller who reported two men possibly breaking into the home of black Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. did not describe their race, acknowledged they might just be having a hard time with the door and said she saw two suitcases on the porch.

Cambridge police on Monday released the 911 recording and radio transmissions from the scene in an effort to show they had nothing to hide, but the tapes raised new questions about how and why the situation escalated.

Read the entire AP article. Then, compare the true facts to the comments from black pundits:

This person calls Lucia Whalen's 911 call "a racist action " (though he does eat his words later).  This black "legal scholar" suggest that Gates sue the woman who called 911 . These African Americans are demanding an apology from Lucia Whalen .

I hope that some attorney will help Lucia Whalen sue each and every one of these people (though they probably don't have any money) for defamation. (And hope for an all-white jury!)

This case has certainly gotten interesting. I think any claims of racism on the part of the Cambridge officer have easily been dismissed with the facts.

The biggest surprise, to me, was how stupid Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is. I presumed he wasn't an idiot, or a raving lunatic. Now I'm not sure.

I've been thinking about this case recently and I'm a bit torn. Part of me wants to say Gates got what he deserved. My Libertarian senses tell me that a cop arrested a guy in his own house for simply raising his voice and not complying with an order to step outside. Gates should have been allowed to prove it was his house via witness or other means IN his house without being arrested. I'm thinking more and more, this is a case of 'contempt of cop' where the officer overreached because someone wasn't licking his boot fast enough. I think the officer made a tough call, but I'm not so sure he is squeaky clean in all of this either. Plenty of 'stupidity' to go around... Obama, Gates and cop.

I am very new to this site.......but in my humble opinion let me add.....put yourself in Mr. Gate's shoes. I don't think we would really know what we would do if that happened to one of us. You are arrested in your own home, and after you prove that you live there, you still get arrested, I guess Mr. Gates should have just shut up and allowed himself to be treated like the "black piece of trash" (as one person put it) I think it's a no win situation, the cop I don't think is racist, just got angry and asserted his power. The man was in his own home. Every cop defended this man, b/c that's the code of the police, (for the most part) The president said that Mr.Gates was a "friend". He was asked a question and gave a honest answer. I don't think the police acted "stupidly" just a real bad call.. we are all allowed to make a mistake... let's be careful how we judge shall well...

This is a unique place
