The Stanford Theatre in Palo Alto will likely be closed Friday because of a small fire that prompted an evacuation of the theater tonight, a fire battalion chief said.
At about 7:35 p.m., the theater's movie projector overheated, malfunctioned and ignited, Battalion Chief Niles Broussard said. No one was injured in the incident, but the audience was forced to evacuate the theater at 221 University Ave.
Broussard said the blaze was controlled by the theater's sprinkler system in minutes, and the fire damage was limited to the projector.
However, the theater sustained between $5,000 and $10,000 in water damage and is expected to be closed Friday, Broussard said.
